Buy My Records

You may choose any recordkeeping system suited to your business that clearly shows your income and expenses. The business you are in affects the type of records you need to keep for federal tax purposes. Your recordkeeping system should include a summary of your business transactions. This summary is ordinarily made in your business books (for example, accounting journals and ledgers). Your books must show your gross income, as well as your deductions and credits. For most small businesses, the business checking account is the main source for entries in the business books.

The electronic accounting software program or electronic system you choose should meet the same basic recordkeeping principles mentioned above. All requirements that apply to hard copy books and records also apply to electronic records. For more detailed information refer to Publication 583, Starting a Business and Keeping Records.

We are always interested in taking a look at your unwanted records! We have a vinyl buyer on duty every day from Noon to 8 PM. However, we ask that you do not bring in items to sell after 7pm. We also still buy CDs!

We examine the condition of every record that we buy. We do not buy badly scratched records, or records with water damage of any kind. Most of the time we can do a buy in 30 minutes or less. However, at busier times, or if you have a larger collection, you may have to wait a bit longer. You are always welcome to leave your records with us and we will give you a call when we are ready to make you an offer. In some cases this may take up to 48 hours.

We do 95% of our buying in the store. We always have trained buying staff on duty that will be more than happy to take a look at your records. However, we will happily travel to take a look at larger collections of great value, and will pay top dollar for rare and obscure vinyl.

When you are using records in a NARA research room, you can almost always make your own copies of both paper records and special media, such as film footage or photographs. See also our information on using scanners.

If you were born to American parents abroad, they should have registered your birth with the country's U.S. embassy or consulate. If they did, they would have received a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA). You can get a copy of this report from the U.S. Department of State. Depending on the country, a vital records office in the nation may also list the birth.

A divorce certificate is issued by a state vital records office. It shows that a divorce occurred but not all the same information as a divorce decree. You can save time and money by determining which document you need before requesting a copy.

Once an adoption is finalized, the state seals all records to protect the privacy of all involved parties. To obtain adoption records, adopted persons must make arrangements through state agencies. Find out what records are available and how to obtain them.

In some states, you may be able to access identifying information through a mutual consent registry. Using these registries, all involved in an adoption can declare what information may be disclosed. Some states may require the consent of both the birth parents and adoptive parents for the release of records. However, the release of information varies by state.

If your state does not maintain a mutual consent registry, there are other ways to obtain records through consent. Public or private agencies can locate birth parents in some states. When an agency contacts birth parents, they can find out identifying information through:

The Most Valuable Vinyl Record In The WorldJohn Marshall's love for old records began when he startedcollecting albums from the jukebox distributor down the street from hischildhood home. His collection grew during a 30-year career in radio, when hewould save promo records that flooded the station.

"I bought many of them purely for the love of music, notrealizing then they could be worth a lot of money down the road," he says. "It was probably in themid-70's that I became aware there was a collector's market for records."

The record falls into the category of collectible recordsknown as "Northern Soul," a term that came about several years ago whenobscure soul music from the U.S. became in high demand in northern England.

Of course, it's not the only valuable record. As Marshallexplains, the most collectible records are those recorded by the Beatles andElvis Presley. Original stereo copies of the Beatles album Yesterday and Todaycan be worth as much as $25,000.

Joe Lauro owns Old78s.com,and is perhaps the world's foremost expert on shellac 78 records. He saysplayback quality varies significantly between the shellac records produced byrecord companies.

"The usage of shellac became the norm circa 1900's, andthe better the shellac, the better the sound of the record in terms of lesssurface noise," he says. "The smaller record companies that offeredexpensive records often mixed the shellac with other particles like sand orwood, and the result was a very noisy playing surface. Better companies likeColumbia and Victor used superior quality shellac and the records sounded muchbetter. The circa 1920's to early 30's Columbia and Okeh labels were thebest, as their records were laminated with a cardboard core and much purershellac playing surface."

Lauro says he will pay thousands of dollars for certainrecords on Paramount and other labels, but cautions: "Not all records on theselabels are of value. It's just that the rarest ones often turn up on theselabels. Value is driven by rarity and desirability. Just because it's 100years old does not make it valuable. It's a matter of what the record is."

Tracks such as "Rubber Band", "Little Bombardier" and "Maid of Bond Street" are primarily led by brass instruments,[8] while "Uncle Arthur" and "She's Got Medals" are primarily led by woodwinds.[14] "Little Bombardier" and "Maid of Bond Street" are in waltz time,[8] while "Join the Gang" includes sitar and a musical quotation of the Spencer Davis Group's recent hit "Gimme Some Lovin'".[15] The Newley influence is present on "Love You till Tuesday", "Little Bombardier" and "She's Got Medals".[2][5] Regarding the influence, Newley himself later stated in 1992: "I always made fun of it, in a sense. Most of my records ended in a stupid giggle, trying to tell people that I wasn't being serious. I think Bowie liked that irreverent thing, and his delivery was very similar to mine, that Cockney thing. But then he went on to become madly elegant and very, very original."[7] 041b061a72
